A recent discovery on the European games rating site, PEGI, suggests that Minecraft may soon make an appearance on Nintendo's premiere home console, the Wii U. While a release date is listed on PEGI (specifically, today), no other mention of the game has yet surfaced from anyone, including Nintendo, Microsoft, or Mojang. One strong possibility is that the game only recently received a PEGI rating, but that does not necessarily mean a release is coming soon, or at all.
Nintendo is, perhaps coincidentally, doing a Nintendo Direct conference today (2:00pm PST, 4:00pm CST, 10:00pm GMT), which could include an announcement about Minecraft: Wii U Edition. The timing of the rating with PEGI and Nintendo Direct seems pretty close.
We will keep you posted!
UPDATE: Nintendo Direct did not make any direct mention of Minecraft, though the PEGI rating remains. So far, there has been no mention of an ESRB rating, though it is reasonable to guess it will get a similar or identical ESRB rating on the Wii as it has on any other platform.
